TDS Policy
From 1st April 23 Income tax department has introduced a new TDS section for winnings from online games, 194 BA. The net winnings are calculated at the time when a user place a request for withdrawal(at the year end on the closing balance) and TDS is calculated @ 30 % on the net winnings comprised in withdrawal/closing balance at the year end.
Imported Points :
- The TDS will be deducted at the time of withdrawal.
- The TDS will be applicable only on net winnings comprised in withdrawal and not the deposit.
- Tax will be calculated at 30% of Net Winnings. Taking the above example, 30% of ₹100 = ₹30 will be considered as TDS.
- The Net Winnings will reset at the start of every financial year.
Net Winnings
Net Winnings refer to the profit earned by a player, calculated as the difference between the total amount won and the entry fees paid. For instance, if a player participates in 100 games, each with an entry fee of ₹1000, and wins ₹2000 in total, their Net Winnings would be ₹2000 (total winnings) - ₹1000 (total entry fees) = ₹1000.
The Net Winnings reset at the beginning of each financial year.
How is tax determined on 'Net Winnings'?
Tax is assessed at a rate of 30% on Net Winnings. In the aforementioned example, 30% of ₹1000 = ₹300, which is considered as the TDS (Tax Deducted at Source).
